FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team (5-1) is set to make its first road trip of the season, heading about 16 miles south to take on Florida Memorial (3-3). Game time at the A. Chester Arena is slated for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30.
The Sharks are coming off an impressive weekend at the NSU Thanksgiving Classic. On Friday, the Sharks topped Bemidji State, 74-45, and then followed with a 14-point victory (69-55) over SW Minnesota State in the tournament’s final game Saturday.
Danielle Robinson (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) played exceptional in both contests. Robinson matched her season-high with 23 points Friday against the Beavers and then tallied 21 the next night against the Mustangs. She paces the Sharks in scoring this season at 17.3 points per game.
Junior Meixandra Porter (Chantilly, Va.), is also having a great start to her NSU career after transferring from Colorado State. Porter is second on the team in scoring at 14.5 ppg, while leading the Sharks with five assists per contest.
Jasmine Wilkins (So., Miami, Fla.) is averaging 10.5 ppg, third on the team, but is grabbing a team-high seven boards per game. The Sharks have dominated the glass through the first six games of the season, securing 8.3 more rebounds per game (44-35.7) than its opponents.
The Lions (3-3) had a tough start to the 2011-12 season, dropping games to Xavier (La.) and Loyola (La.), but have rebounded to win three of their last four, all at home.
Forward Dominique Butler leads the Lions at 14.7 ppg after dropping 25 against Puerto Rico-Mayaguez a week ago. Dominique Jackson is second in scoring at 13.7 ppg, while pacing the Lions on the boards with 10 rpg.
