FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After winning its home opener last Tuesday, the No. 31 Nova Southeastern University womens tennis team (2-0, 0-0 SSC) travels to No. 26 Saint Leo Saturday, Feb.19 to face the Saint Leo Lions (2-1, 1-0 SSC) at the Saint Leo Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
“Our team will have to come to play,” head coach Michael Coleman said, “I am looking forward to see how our players will respond to this team.”
Last time out the Sharks defeated the Northwood (Fla.) Seahawks, 7-2, with all the of doubles teams winning their matches for the second straight outing.
Paige Lindsley (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) and
Austin Lavallii (So., Williamston, Mich.) shutout their opponents in their second straight doubles match in the No.3 slot.
In singles play against Northwood,
Dominique Wimmer (Jr., Guntramsdorf, Austria),
Kamryn Blackwood (Fr., Farmington, N.M.) and Lavallii all captured their first singles victory as a Shark.
The Sharks own a 9-0 all-time record against the Lions, winning both matches against SLU last season. In the last time out against Saint Leo the Sharks defeated SLU, 5-0, at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
Saint Leo has won both of its matches at the Saint Leo Tennis Complex this season while knocking off a conference opponent in Tampa on Feb. 9, 8-1. The Lions fell in their last match at Embry Riddle, 8-1, on Feb. 12.
This poses as the first nationally-ranked opponent NSU has faced this spring season.
