FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The dedication and commitment that five deserving seniors have given the program will be honored as the Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team (14-11, 6-9 SSC) host the Florida Southern Moccasins (21-4, 13-2 SSC) to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon , Jan. 29 in the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center.
Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio),
Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.),
Priscilla Perez (Miami, Fla.),
Meloney Fosburgh (Phoenix, Ariz.) and
Lauren Marshall (Gladstone, Mich.) all began their journey in 2007 and have all contributed in different ways.
From offense to defense, in the paint or behind the arc, NSU has found a group that has left a forever impact on the program.
Securing the No. 6 seed in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with an 84-73 win against Lynn, Tepe had a career night reaching two different milestones. After breaking the NSU record for most games played at NSU, Tepe scored 21 points en route to pass the 1,000 point mark in her career.
Sarosi finished the game with a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Sarosi also raised her points per game to 18.3, still holding the top-spot in the SSC.
NSU will head into the final game of the regular season averaging 69.8 points per game.
ABOUT FLORIDA SOUTHERN
The Mocs are the top-scoring team in the SSC averaging 78.3 ppg. Florida Southern is a team that moves the ball around the perimeter looking for the ideal shot as they sit above NSU in assists per game with 20.7 and hit 45 percent of their shots.
Florida Southern has five players in the SSC’s Top-25 in scoring, and four of the five sit in the top-12 in 3-point percentage.
FSC’s Emma Cannon is currently the conference’s top-rebounder, outrebounding Sarosi who is No. 2.
THE SERIES VS. FLORIDA SOUTHERN
With the 86-56 loss on Jan. 26, Florida Southern evened the all-time series to 11-11.
The Sharks were without starter Jasmine Wilkins (Miami, Fla.) due to injury. Sarosi and Tepe both scored in double-figures with 15 and 14, respectively. The Sharks finished the game shooting 36 percent (21-for-58) as Florida Southern shot over 50 percent, hitting 17–of-35 shots.
SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE STANDINGS
Oddly enough, Florida Southern (13-2) and NSU (6-9) are the only two teams to lock down their seeds before heading into the final game.
It will not hurt or help either team’s seed with a win or loss.
Tampa (11-4), who currently sits in the second seed will have to beat Florida Tech (10-5) on Saturday to secure that spot otherwise the Panthers will be sitting in second.
If Florida Tech loses they will sit in the third spot while Rollins (9-6) will remain fourth and Eckerd (9-7) fifth. Potentially if Rollins falls to Lynn (5-10), Eckerd could jump to fourth as the Tritons swept the Tars in the regular season.
If Barry (4-11) wins and Lynn loses, the Bucs will lock down the number seven seed and the Knights will rounds out the conference at eighth.
