Maggs Picks up Two Doubles in the Contest

BOX SCORE

LAKE WORTH, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern baseball team (20-9) busted a five-game winning streak as they lost on the road to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (18-13) Tuesday in Lake Worth, Fla., 4-2.

Dusty Maggs (Sr., Satellite Beach, Fla.) had a solid offensive performance, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two stand-up doubles. The Sharks could not take advantage as they stranded him on base both times. Mauricio Rodriguez (Jr., Miami, Fla.) (2-1) earned his first loss of the season as he allowed nine hits and four earned runs over 3.2 innings pitched. He did pick up two strikeouts in the contest.

The Sharks put their first run on the board without picking up a hit in the first inning. Carlos Asuaje (Fr., Weston, Fla.) led-off with a walk after falling into a 0-2 hole. Asuaje stole second, advanced to third on Luis Penate's (Sr., Miami, Fla.) groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Areo Regoli (Jr., Homestead, Fla.). It was Regoli’s team-high 31st RBI. The Sailfish took the lead with one run in each of the first three frames.

The Sharks only picked up three hits over the first five innings but broke down PBA’s Jeremiah Cauthier, putting him over 100 pitches in the sixth inning. Trailing, 4-1, the Sharks notched another run in the fifth as Alex Marrero (So., Miami, Fla.), who started in right field, earned another leadoff walk and put himself in scoring position on a passed ball. Penate plated Marrero on his first hit of the game, an infield single.

Anthony Nalepa (Sr., Miami, Fla.) picked up the final out of the fourth inning and followed up with three no-hit shutout innings to keep Sailfish at bay, finishing the game with two strikeouts. The Sharks had an opportunity to tie the game in the eighth inning but stranded the tying run on first base. The Sharks had the tying run on first in the ninth when Nikko Echevarria (Jr., Abqaib, Saudi Arabia) and Asuaje each earned two-out walks. The Sharks ended the game on a popup to the second baseman.

The Sharks only had six hits in the contest and have only collected nine hits over 18 innings against the Sailfish this season.

The Sharks will return to Sunshine State Conference play this Friday, April 1 as they travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. to start a weekend series against Eckerd.
