No. 20 Women’s Tennis Host Two Top-10 Teams This Weekend

Sharks face No. 3 Lynn on Friday, April 1 and No. 9 Rollins on Sunday, April 3

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The No. 20 Nova Southeastern University women’s tennis team (9-6, 4-1 SSC) welcomes No. 3 Lynn (17-1, 6-0 SSC) on Friday, April 1 at 2 p.m. and No. 9 Rollins (14-4, 5-1 SSC) on Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at the NSU Tennis Complex.

Last time out, Dominique Wimmer (Jr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) came from behind to top No. 24 singles player Katarina Huba in three sets which helped kick start the Sharks comeback rally to defeat the No. 28 Florida Tech Panthers, 5-4. The Sharks found themselves down, 2-1, heading into singles play against the Panthers, but spurted a four win rally in singles play to capture their ninth win of the year.

Each match marks the 10th time NSU has met both the Fighting Knights and the Tars on the tennis courts. The Sharks have failed to win a match against Lynn, trailing in the all-time series, 10-0. NSU has shown to be more successful against Rollins owning a 3-7 all-time series record against the Tars.

Last season, NSU fell to both squads. The Sharks first fell to Rollins on March 28, 8-1, before being blanked by Lynn, 8-0, on April 3.

The Fighting Knights have had a near flawless season, losing only to top-ranked Amherst College on March 18, 5-4, in Boca Raton, Fla. Over the course of the year, LU has tallied an 8-1 record against top-10 opponents which includes knocking off No. 1 Fresno Pacific, 7-2, on March 14 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Fighting Knights have proven strong on the road, posting a perfect 5-0 record this season.

Rollins enters Friday’s match on a three match win streak while winning 10 of its last 12 matches. The Tars have posted an impressive 11-4 record against top-25 opponents this season while being 7-2 on the road this year. Rollins has remained a top-10 team all season, spending most of its time in the 10th spot.

On Tuesday, March 29, NSU moved up to 20th in the national ranking, the highest the squad has been all year. The Sharks enter the weekend on a two match winning streak at the NSU Tennis Complex while posting a 4-4 record at home this season.
