RESULTS

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The No. 22 Nova Southeastern tennis team (4-1) lost for the first time this season Saturday at home against the No. 8 California (Pa.) Vulcans (11-4), 6-3.

“It was a tough loss. We hoped to come out stronger but they were a much more consistent team,” said head coach Michael Coleman. “We are a new team… we just have to figure out where everybody fits in.”

Despite the team loss, Paige Lindsley (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) had a successful day in which she picked up wins in both singles and doubles play. Lindsley won her singles match in the fourth slot against Anastassiya Zherdeva (6-4, 6-0) and teamed up with Austin Lavallii (So., Williamston, Mich.) in the third position to defeat Laurie Navarro and Franziska Steinhardt (8-2).

The Sharks’ other win came in the sixth singles position when Blake Bauer (So., Miami, Fla.) defeated Navarro (6-3, 6-7, 10-4). Bauer and Lindsley are now a combined 10-0 on the season in singles play.

NSU was defeated, 2-1, in doubles play as Dominique Wimmer (Jr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Daria Burobina (Fr., Moscow, Russia) lost to Annabel Pieschl and Jade Pondicas (8-1) in the first position. In the second slot, Kamryn Blackwood (Fr., Farmington, N.M.) and Justine Feaster (Jr., Carrollton, Texas) fell to Axelle Fernandez and Anastassiya Zherdev (8-4).

NSU dropped four matches in singles play, including the top three positions. In her third straight match in the top position, Wimmer lost to Pieschl (6-4, 6-3). In the second spot, Lavallii lost her third straight match to Steinhardt (6-2, 6-2). Competing in the third spot, Burobina was defeated by Pondicas (6-4, 6-0). Despite shutting out her opponent in the second set, Oksana Krutiyenko (Sr., Novo Kahovka, Ukraine) dropped a three-set match to Fernandez (6-2, 0-6, 6-2).

The Sharks will return to their home court Sunday, March 6 as they take on NCAA Division I Pittsburgh at 10 a.m.
