No. 20 Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 3 Lynn, 9-0

Sharks Shutout For The First Time This Season

MATCH RESULTS

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
– The No. 20 Nova Southeastern University women’s tennis team (9-7, 4-2 SSC) fell to the No. 3 Lynn Fighting Knights (18-1, 7-0 SSC), 9-0, on Friday, April 1 at the NSU Tennis Complex.

“They were an excellent team,” head coach Michael Coleman said. “We got off to some good starts in matches, but just could not maintain any momentum.”

All three Sharks doubles teams got off to rough starts and were unable to gain any momentum during their matches. Dominique Wimmer (Jr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Justine Feaster (Jr., Carrollton, Texas) were blanked by No. 4 Eleonora Iannozzi and Iona Ivan, 8-0, in the No. 1 spot. The international duo of Daria Burobina (Fr., Moscow, Russia) and Federica Longo (So., Buenos Aires, Argentina) were defeated by No. 5 Magdalena Ekert and Isabell Raich, 8-1, in the No. 2 slot.

Paige Lindsley (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) and sophomore Austin Lavallii (Williamston, Mich.) lost only their second match of the season. The duo was shutout by Andrea Berkova and Jessica Yanoff in the No. 3 spot, 8-0.

In singles, NSU struggled to find its rhythm against five of the top 15 singles players in the nation. Wimmer found herself leading No. 7 Ekert in the first set of No. 1 singles before losing momentum late and falling, 7-5. Wimmer struggled in the second set, eventually losing, 7-5, 6-1.

Lavallii had a lead early in her first set against No. 13 Yanoff, but dropped the last couple of games to lose the first set, 7-5. Rattled after losing the close first set, Lavallii could not find her swing, eventually losing, 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot.

Burobina and Lindsley each fell, 6-2, 6-0 in their singles matches. Burobina lost to No. 9 Iannozzi while Lindsley was defeated by No. 12 Ivan.

Oksana Krutiyenko (Sr., Novo Kahovka, Ukraine) battled No. 10 Raich in No 3 singles. Krutiyenko kept the match close early in both sets, but could not pull off the upset, eventually falling, 6-3, 6-2. Blake Bauer (So., Miami, Fla.) gave Aleksandra Vukadinovic a run in both sets of the No. 6 singles match, but fell short, 6-3, 6-4.

The Sharks take a day off before hosting No. 9 Rollins at the NSU Tennis Complex on Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m.
