MATCH RESULTS

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.
–The No. 20 Nova Southeastern University women’s tennis team (10-10) defeated No. 50 Tampa (5-13), 5-1, in the second round backdraw match of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament on Friday, April 15 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

In doubles, the duo of Paige Lindsley (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) and Daria Burobina (Fr., Moscow, Russia) continued their success in the No. 3 spot defeating Briana Ryan and Kathleen Beckham, 8-3. Federica Longo (So., Buenos Aires, Argentina) and sophomore Austin Lavallii (Williamston, Mich.) went back and forth in their No. 2 doubles match against Megan Mancini and Nikol Williams before rallying at the end to prevail, 8-5.

Kamryn Blackwood (Fr., Farmington, N.M.) and Oksana Krutiyenko (Sr., Novo Kahovka, Ukraine) kept their No. 1 doubles match even until losing all their momentum late to fall to Leslie Raymond and Lauren Hewett, 8-5.

The Sharks headed into singles play needing only three wins to earn the backdraw victory and only needed three finished singles matches and six sets to do so.

Dominique Wimmer (Jr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Burobina flew through their singles matches, each shutting out their opponent, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Wimmer defeated Raymond as Burobina defeated Williams which earned the two quick points for the Sharks. Lavallii found her rhythm early in her No. 5 singles match and never looked back, winning her match against Ryan in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-2, and clinching NSU’s victory.

NSU led in the remaining three matches that were deemed unfinished due to the Sharks victory. Blake Bauer (So., Miami, Fla.) was one game away from earning her win over Vicoria Simon as she led, 6-3, 5-1, in the No. 6 spot. Lindsley had full command of her match as she led Mancini, 6-1, 3-2, while Krutiyenko had just won her first set, 7-5, over Hewitt.

The Sharks will battle No. 23 Florida Tech for fifth place in the SSC Tournament on Saturday, April 15 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs at 9 a.m.
