No. 20 Women’s Tennis Finishes Sixth at SSC Tournament

Sharks Fall to No. 23 Florida Tech, 5-4

MATCH RESULTS

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.
–The No. 20 Nova Southeastern University women’s tennis team (10-11) lost to No. 23 Florida Tech (18-8), 5-4, in the fifth place consolation match of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament on Saturday, April 16 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

In doubles, the duo of Paige Lindsley (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) and Daria Burobina (Fr., Moscow, Russia) won their third straight doubles match as a team by defeating Abbey Keister and Alexis Weinnig in the No. 3 spot, 8-1.

Justine Feaster (Sr., Carrollton, Texas) and sophomore Austin Lavallii (Williamston, Mich.) went back and forth in their No. 2 doubles match before losing momentum and falling, 8-4, to Abigail Greif and Monica Price. Kamryn Blackwood (Fr., Farmington, N.M.) and Oksana Krutiyenko (Sr., Novo Kahovka, Ukraine) got off to a sluggish start and never recovered, eventually losing to Katarina Huba and Kristina Huba in the No. 1 slot, 8-1.

The Sharks headed into singles play down 2-1 and needed to win four of the six singles matches to claim victory.

Blake Bauer (So., Miami, Fla.) and Burobina raced through their singles matches and earned straight set, 6-3, 6-3 victories. Burobina defeated Greif in the No. 2 slot as Bauer beat Keister at No. 6.

Lindsley battled back and forth in the first two sets of her No. 4 singles match, winning the first set, 6-4, before losing the second set, 6-4. Not rattled, Lindsley played her best set in the third as she defeated Monica Price, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Dominique Wimmer (Jr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) tried to come back in her second set, but fell short, eventually losing to Katarina Huba, 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot. Krutiyenko held her own in her first set, but fell 6-4 against Kristina Huba in the No. 3 spot. Krutiyenko couldn’t catch any momentum after the first set defeat and lost the match, 6-4, 6-1.

Lavallii and Stephanie Dohner wouldn’t let either get too much of a lead in the first two sets of No. 5 singles with each player taking a set and forcing a third set. In the third set, Lavallii lost all of her momentum after winning the second set and fell, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
