FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – First year women’s basketball head coach LeAnn Freeland of Nova Southeastern University announced the signing of Division I transfer Meixandra Porter for 2011-12 recruiting class. She is the second addition to the class after Freeland signed local star Danielle Robinson.
"Meixandra is a great addition to our program,” said Freeland. “She is a scoring point guard who has the ability to be a great player in our system because of her skill level, athleticism and experience. While at CSU, she earned significant playing time for two seasons and in high school she won a state championship. Our coaching staff is excited a player of her caliber is joining us at NSU."
The 5-6 guard from Colorado State finished fourth on her team in the 2010-11 season averaging 7.7 points per game while only logging 19.9 minutes per contest. A Virginia Player of the Year, Porter made an immediate impact to the Rams, leading them to one of their best seasons since 2003-04.
A consistent scorer, Porter nearly averaged 40 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line. The guard also recorded 18 steals and three blocks in her second year.
During her freshman campaign, Porter battled injury and still managed to average 4.1 points per game in 15 outings. She also drained 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
Porter was a three sport letterwinner in high school for the Freedom Eagles in basketball, cross country and track and field. She was a First-Team All-Metro and First Team All-State while guiding the Eagles to a District, Regional and State Championship.
