FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. The Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team (10-4, 3-2 SSC), which has yet to lose in January, hosts Lynn (8-7, 3-2 SSC) Wednesday at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center. The Sharks and Fighting Knights are set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. with head coach LeAnn Freeland seeking her 100th career victory.

The Sharks have been riding the hot hand of Meixandra Porter (Jr., Chantilly, Va.) during its current three-game win streak. Porter has averaged 18.3 points per game during that stretch, including an 18-point performance during NSU’s 54-37 victory at Tampa this past weekend.

Quinessa Johnson (Sr., West Chester, Ohio) also played a stellar game against the Spartans. Johnson matched teammate Richelle Carach (So., Naples, Fla.) with a game-high 11 rebounds, while also scoring nine points and snagging four of the Sharks’ 10 steals.

The Fighting Knights snapped a three-game losing skid on Saturday, holding off a late charge from Florida Southern to earn a 63-62 win. Four Lynn student-athletes reached double figures against the Mocs, led by Kira Harvey with 14 points. Harvey and Marquis Lee pace the Fighting Knights at 12.7 ppg.

Lynn’s three conference wins this season have come by a combined four points. The Fighting Knights knocked off Tampa Dec. 3 when Lee hit a layup with three seconds left, Lee again came through to beat Saint Leo with a jumper that broke a tie game with 58 seconds left.

Two key factors that have dictated success for the Sharks this season has been the halftime score and the rebounding margin. NSU is 8-0 when leading at halftime and 9-0 when outrebounding its opponent. The Sharks hold an edge in rebounding average this season over the Fighting Knights, grabbing 42.2 per game to Lynn’s 37.1.

The teams split last season’s games with each squad winning on its home court. Lynn took the Jan. 19 meeting, 64-56, while the Sharks captured an 84-73 victory Feb. 23. The Fighting Knights hold a 13-10 advantage in the all-time series with the Sharks.
