BOX SCORE
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team (11-6, 4-4 SSC) dropped to 4-4 in the SSC, falling on the road to the efficient offense of No. 10 Rollins, 66-52, Wednesday evening at Warden Arena.
Tera McDaniel opened the scoring for the Tars with a triple, but the Sharks responded with a pair of their own, as
Danielle Robinson (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Meixandra Porter (Jr., Chantilly, Va.) each hit from long range early. NSU took a 10-5 lead into the first media timeout as a
Jada Buckner (Sr., Loudon, Tenn.) block led to a
Jasmine Wilkins (So., Miami, Fla.) layup in transition.
Rollins used a 13-4 run over a 6:54 stretch to regain the lead, 18-14. Porter closed the gap to one, hitting her second trey of the half, set up by a nice pass from
Richelle Carach (So., Naples, Fla.).
The Tars offensive continued to score though, going on an 11-2 run to put Rollins ahead 34-22 with under a minute left in the half. Carach again set up a teammate for a 3-pointer, this time
Quinessa Johnson (Sr., West Chester, Ohio), to shrink the halftime deficit to nine, 34-25.
Porter and Kristina Mingos for Rollins each recorded eight points in the first stanza. The Tars dominated the glass, grabbing 24 rebounds (nine offensive) as a team, while Sharks got their hands on only 13.
The Tars used the first eight minutes of the second half increase their advantage to 15 points. Kourtnie Berry knocked down a jumper from the wing off a Paris Moore offensive board to put Rollins ahead 47-32, which brought a timeout call from the NSU bench.
Taylor Kramer (Fr., Fort Myers, Fla.) hit a trey for the Sharks out of the timeout, but NSU was unable to get a stop on the defensive end as Rollins extended its lead to 54-35.
The Sharks used a Robinson 3-pointer and Porter running jumper in transition to trim the Tars lead to 14, forcing a Rollins timeout with just under three minutes left to play. Robinson added another from the behind the arc in the last minute, but Rollins left the court with a 66-52 victory in hand.
Robinson led all scorers with 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers. She has now made 14 from downtown in the Sharks’ last three games. Porter added 13 for the Sharks. Rollins had nine players tally at least five points with Ashley Losch leading the way with 11.
The Sharks defense that had averaged over 11 steals per game this season, managed only one takeaway against the Tars.
NSU will look to rebound Saturday when it travels to Miami Gardens, Fla. to take on rival Barry.
