Women’s Basketball Seeks Third Straight Win Saturday at Saint Leo

The Sharks have beat Tampa and PBA in the last seven days.

, Fla. The Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team (14-9, 6-7 SSC) will go for the season sweep of Saint Leo (7-16, 1-12 SSC) Saturday at the Marion Bowman Activities Center in St. Leo, Fla. The action will begin at 2 p.m., with the men’s game to follow.
 
The Sharks topped the Lions back on Jan. 21 by a score of 74-45. Danielle Robinson (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Meixandra Porter (Jr., Chantilly, Va.) combined for 11 made 3-pointers in the game as the Sharks cruised to victory. Jasmine Wilkins (So., Miami, Fla.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, to go with four steals and three blocks.
 
Robinson is currently ranked 32nd in the country in 3-point field goal percentage, converting at a 39.4 percent clip. Porter leads the Sharks with a 41 percent success rate from long range, but does not qualify for the national rankings as she is averaging below two 3-pointers per game. As a team, the Sharks have hit 153 triples this season, 14 shy of the single season record at NSU.
 
The Lions have only one win in the 17 games since Dec. 18. After starting the season 6-0, Saint Leo dropped its next 14 games before getting its seventh win Feb. 11 against Tampa. In the last week, the Lions have fell on the road to No. 9 Rollins and No. 24 Florida Southern.
 
Chelsea Williams is the lone Saint Leo student-athlete scoring in double figures, averaging 13 ppg. Her 50.2 shooting percent is fourth-best is the conference. Williams is also second in rebounds per contest with 5.9. She trails only Chelsea Connelly, who is bringing down 7.4 boards per game.
 
The 2011-12 regular season is nearing its end as the Sharks have only two games remaining after Saturday’s matchup with Saint Leo. NSU will visit Lynn Feb. 22 and then host Rollins to end the season Feb. 25. The conference tournament will begin Feb. 29 with the seeds still to be determined over the final week of action.
