FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women’s tennis team (8-12) picked up a 6-3 regional win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (13-5) that ended a four-match losing streak on Thursday night at the NSU Tennis Complex.
The Sharks picked up the early lead after winning two of the three doubles flights. NSU’s Alexandra Johansson (Fr., Sydney, Australia) and Austin Lavallii (Jr., Williamston, Mich.) won 8-5 at the top flight over Veena Vasquez and Leydi Zora, while Dominique Wimmer (Sr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Charlotte Cote (Fr., Montreal, Canada) combined for an 8-0 win at the bottom flight over PBA’s Alexis Antista and Liddy Robinson.
Palm Beach Atlantic’s middle doubles pair Victoria Baca and Natalia Trotter topped NSU’s Daria Burobina (So., Moscow, Russia) and Federica Longo (Jr., Buenos Aires, Argentina) 8-6.
In singles, the Sharks won the top three flights led by Johansson’s 6-3, 6-2 win over Vasquez. Wimmer topped Zora 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 2 flight and Longo picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Baca at No. 3. NSU’s Cote also took the fifth flight 6-3, 6-0 over PBA’s Vahatalo.
Trotter earned one of two PBA singles win at No. 4 over NSU’s Burobina 6-3, 7-5, while Antista won the tiebreaker in the bottom flight 10-5 after being tied 5-7, 6-2 in two sets.
The Sharks return to action on Friday, April 6 hosting Northwood (Mich.) at 1:00 pm at the NSU Tennis Complex.
