BOCA RATON, Fla. –
Amanda Burakoski’s 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds remaining lifted the No. 20 Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team to a 69-67 comeback victory over Lynn University on Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks (13-4, 5-2 SSC) trailed by as many as 10 in the second half, and were down 65-60 with 3:35 remaining. Burakoski (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored the game’s next five points, on a 3-pointer and two free throws, to knot it up at 65-65 at the 2:58 mark.

After the teams traded empty possessions, Lynn’s Shatorria Baker put in a jumper with 1:30 left to give the Fighting Knights a two-point lead. The Sharks missed two free throws, a pattern on the afternoon (as a team, they were 7-21 from the line), but Richelle Carach (Jr., Naples, Fla.) took a key charge with 58.1 seconds left to give NSU the ball back.

After Tailor Jones (Sr., Altamonte Springs, Fla.) made 1-2 from the line to make it 67-66, the Shark defense held, forcing a missed shot from Kira Harvey and setting up Burakoski’s game-winner.

Burakoski scored 15 of her team-high 17 points in the second half, making all five of her shots (and all three of her 3-pointers) after the break. Carach had a career-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, Jones had 14 and Danielle Robinson (So., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) 13. Julia Salmio (Jr., Vantaa, Finland) also was key to the second half comeback, going 3-3 from the field including her first-ever NSU 3-pointer, for seven points.

The Sharks overcame Harvey’s 27 points (the most by an NSU opposing player this season) and 10 rebounds. Lynn (11-5, 4-3 SSC) also had four in double digits: Tylar Tracy and Baker with 11, and Charla Nelson-James with 10.

NSU kept pace with Florida Tech, who won earlier on Saturday over Florida Southern, 52-48. The Sharks and Panthers are tied atop the SSC with 5-2 conference marks.

The team returns to the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center Wednesday night when they host Barry at 5:30 p.m.
