Men’s Soccer to Rematch Against Tampa Wednesday

Sharks to face Spartans for the second time following a scoreless road draw in September.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team (3-4-3, 0-2-1 SSC) will play host to the previously nationally ranked Tampa Spartans (4-4-2, 0-3-0 SSC) Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the NSU Soccer Complex.

NSU has hit bumps in the road this season, but come off a strong result with a draw against No. 10 Saint Leo Saturday, 1-1. Outside of undefeated No. 2 Rollins, the Sharks are the only team this season that the Lions were not able to overcome. Saint Leo nearly took their second loss, but scored a desperation goal in the 87th minute to send the match to overtime.

The Sharks will look to use a draw against a top-10 nationally ranked team to propel them towards their first Sunshine State Conference victory. Earlier this season, the Sharks faced an undefeated Tampa squad that was ranked 20th in the nation. The Sharks shutout Tampa at the Spartans' field to earn a scoreless draw. NSU held the home team to four corner kicks and five shots on goal.

Since then, Tampa has stumbled to a 1-4 record, including three SSC losses. Despite the poor results, Tampa has scored nine goals during that stretch and has lost two matches in overtime.  Regardless, the match will be crucial to the postseason fate of both squads.

A win on Wednesday would be crucial to the Sharks' place in the standings, but will also build momentum headed into Saturday's high profile match against No. 2 Rollins at home.
