Box Score
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team (3-5-3, 0-3-1 SSC) dropped a home Sunshine State Conference match to the Tampa Spartans (5-4-2, 1-3-0 SSC) Wednesday, 3-1.
The Sharks came out aggressive early and scored the opening goal of the match. The goal came from freshman
Viktor Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) in the 28th minute.
David Robles (Jr., Miami) set the play in motion with a ball into a crowded box.
Nicola Brivio (So., Gallarte, Italy) connected Robles to Jonsson with a touch pass through traffic to the striker, right in front of the goal.
The score was Jonsson's second goal of the year and the team-best fourth assist for Brivio. It was Robles first dime of the season, putting him in a share of the team lead in points with five.
The Sharks outshot Tampa, 8-4, in the opening half and forced three saves. However, Tampa took the lead at the break after two goals toward the end of the first half. Jason Collister tied the match with a goal off a short corner in the 37th minute, before Tyler Blackwood scored on an unassisted goal off the post in the 38th minute.
In the second half, Tampa stuffed the box and stifled the NSU offense. The Sharks could not get a shot off until the 86th minute, as Tampa was content with defending its lead and counter attacking. The counter attack worked for the Spartans in the 77th minute, when Daniel Barboto found Blackwood for his second goal of the night.
Overall, Tampa was held to nine shots to NSU's eight and only one corner kick. The loss was
Andrea Giombetti's (Jr., Rome) first loss at home since the season opener. The goalkeeper made two saves on the evening.
NSU will look to bounce back on Shark Night this Saturday at home against No. 2 Rollins at 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out in their white Sharks gear to white-out the NSU Soccer Complex.
