FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team (3-3-2, 0-1-0 SSC) will end its longest road trip of the regular season Wednesday, when the Sharks head to Miami Shores, Fla. to take on the Barry Buccaneers (4-5-1, 1-0-0 SSC) at 7 p.m.
NSU is looking to bounce back after a tough five-match stretch. Over the last five matches, NSU has faced three top-20 teams and the defending NCAA National Champions, Lynn, twice. The Sharks have been competitive during this stretch, with only two losses, neither of which were blowout matches. Unfortunately, the only Sunshine State Conference match in that mix was at Lynn, in which the Sharks lost, 3-1.
Although Barry is not a top-20 nationally ranked team, the load does not get lighter for NSU. After starting the season 1-4, the Bucs have turned the ship around and are 3-1-1 over the last five matches. They are currently coming off a SSC win on the road against Florida Southern, 1-0.
The matchup between Barry and NSU is a part of Barry's rivalry week, in which the Bucs host NSU in four different sports. Wednesday's men's soccer match will be the final event between the two institutions. It is a fitting ending, as the two soccer teams have a history of great matches. Since 2005, six of eight matches have been decided by no more than a goal. Each team has won one match over the other by multiple goals.
In addition to trying to earn three points in the standings, NSU will be chasing a milestone on Wednesday. With a win, NSU will have beaten Barry 10 times in program history. Overall, NSU has double-digit wins against seven other institutions. Only two, Eckerd and Florida Southern, are in the SSC.
