Volleyball's Last Road Match is Friday Night at Saint Leo

Sharks and Lions will have first serve at 7 p.m.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team will have its final road match of the 2013 season on Friday night when they match up against the Saint Leo Lions at the Bowman Center at 7 p.m.

The Sharks (5-19, 1-12 SSC) are coming off a rare midweek game, one in which they fell in the closest of margins to Lynn in five sets on the road on Tuesday. They look to snap a six-match skid Friday against the Lions, who took the other match between these two squads earlier in the year in Fort Lauderdale, a straight-set win on Oct. 26.

Saint Leo (19-9, 6-5 SSC) has lost its last two, each away from their home floor, against Rollins and No. 2 Tampa. They currently sit in fourth place in the conference standings, two wins behind third-place Eckerd, but with the same number of SSC losses.

The squad ranks among the league leaders in many hitting categories: first in assists and aces, and second in kills and hitting percentage. Individually, Jaclyn Mailoto is statistically the league's top setter, at 11.98 assists per set. Alexa Griffith-Hardy is second among all players in hitting percentage, at .358, while teammates Hope Lemon, Jordan Sisson and Meghan Donovan all rank in the top 15.

Saint Leo also features the league's No. 2 player in digs, Yaidimar Santiago (4.84 per set), while outside hitter Lauren Campbell is third in kills at 3.38. Four Lions rank in the top 11 in aces, led by Hope Lemon's 0.36, tied for third in the conference.

The Sharks' top hitter, Sydney Cook (So., Miami), continues to vie for a spot on the All-SSC team as she ranks fifth in the league in kills (3.28). She had 18 in the loss to Lynn, and her 3.84 points per set is now good enough for fourth. With 46 assists Tuesday, setter Katie Pyles (Fr., Denver) moved up to sixth in the SSC (7.91 per set) in her campaign for the SSC's All-Newcomer Team.
