MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 16 Nova Southeastern women’s tennis team (1-3, 0-2 SSC) took its second loss of the weekend Sunday, as the Sharks fell to the No. 8 Florida Tech Panthers (2-1, 1-1 SSC), 7-2, on the road.
The Sharks picked up both their wins in the fifth and sixth flights in singles play.
Bianca Roberts (So., Fort Walden Beach, Fla.) finished her weekend 2-0 in singles play with a win over Abbey Keister, 7-6, 7-5. In the final seed,
Luisa Pintado (Fr., Guadalajara, Mexico) cruised to victory in her Sunshine State Conference debut against Jessica Widmark, 6-2, 6-2.
In the premier singles match of the day, NSU ace
Alexandra Johansson (So., Sydney, Australia) fell to Kristina Huba, who is ranked fourth in the nation, 6-2, 6-1. In the second flight,
Sabrina Kierberg (Fr., Munich, Germany) played to three sets but lost to Stephanie Dohner, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Iryna Serdyuk (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) was placed in the third flight, her best placing so far this season, and battled in a close first set. Ultimately, she would go down to Chloe Chanley, 7-6, 6-2.
Carlee Rizzolo (Fr., Livingston, N.J.) played in one of the tightest matches of the day, falling to Charlotte Fahnehjelm in the fourth seed, 7-6, 7-5.
The Sharks were close to only needing two singles wins, as each doubles loss was razor thin. In the top flight, Johansson and Kierberg lost to Huba and Dohner, 9-8 (7-5). The same score reflected in the Sharks’ second-seed loss, as
Austin Lavallii (Sr., Williamston, Mich.) and Rizzolo fell to Keister and Fahnehjelm. In the final doubles match,
Linda Kornienko (Fr., Fort Myers, Fla.) and Roberts were bested by Katie Close and Chanley, 9-7.
The Sharks will take the week off before returning home to face Rollins Sunday at 10 a.m.
