FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 16 Nova Southeastern tennis team (3-3, 2-2 SSC) won its second Sunshine State Conference match of the season Friday, defeating the Eckerd Tritons (0-4, 0-4 SSC) at home, 7-2.
The Sharks earned the win by collecting points early, winning all three doubles matches. The Sharks kept their lineup from the previous weekend, which produced results.
Austin Lavallii (Sr., Williamston, Mich.) and
Sabrina Kierberg (Fr., Munich, Germany) stayed in the top doubles flight to beat Gipson Hawn and Erika Fridrik.
In the second doubles pairing,
Alexandra Johansson (So., Sydney, Australia) and
Bianca Roberts (So., Tampa, Fla.) defeated Taylor Bullock and Amanda Teets. In the third slot,
Charlotte Cote (So., Montreal, Canada) and
Linda Kornienko (Fr., Fort Myers, Fla.) took down Cari Trapp and Manon Ironside.
The Sharks continued their success in the singles matches, winning their first three flights. Johanansson claimed her first victory in the top flight over Trapp, 6-0, 6-1. Following Johansson’s lead in the second flight was freshman Carlee Rizzolo (Fr., Livingston, N.J.), defeating Hawn, 6-3, 6-1. Iryna Serdyuk (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.), who played in the third flight, beat Ironside, 6-1, 6-2.
Luisa Pintado (Fr., Guadalajara, Mexico) claimed a victory in the fifth flight, double-bageling Erika Fridrik, 6-0, 6-0.
In a heart-wrenching match, Roberts, who led the first set and fought hard to the finish, was taken down by Eckerd’s Bullock. Roberts lost to Bullock, 6-4, 4-6, 4-10.
Kamryn Blackwood (Jr., Farmington, N.M.) was the second Shark to face a loss in a singles match, as she was beaten by Teets, 1-6, 1-6.
The Sharks will be back in action on Feb. 27, when they hit the road for their next four matches, starting at Barry. That match will begin at 2 p.m.
