BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The No. 17 Nova Southeastern tennis team (3-4, 2-3 SSC) dropped a match to the undefeated No. 4 Barry Buccaneers (7-0, 5-0 SSC) Wednesday on the road, 8-1.

The Sharks got their lone win in the bottom singles draw, as freshman Luisa Pintado (Guadalajara, Mexico) picked up a victory over Isabela Miro. Pintado was routed in the first set, 1-6, but showed resiliency by winning back-to-back sets, 6-3, 10-8.

From there, it was all Barry, which has not lost a regular season match since April of 2011. In the top flight, Sabrina Kierberg (Fr., Munich, Germany) fell to Elisabeth Abanda, 6-2, 6-1. Alexandra Johansson (So., Sydney, Australia) returned to the second flight in a loss to Emma Onila, 6-2, 6-2. In the third slot, Carlee Rizzolo (Fr., Livingston, N.J.) battled hard to the end but was ousted by Karina Goia, 6-1, 7-5.

Iryna Serdyuk (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) had a tough out against Kimmy Twelker in the fourth flight, 6-0, 6-1. Linda Kornienko (Fr., Fort Myers, Fla.) rounded out the Sharks in singles play with a fifth-seed loss to Akemi Maehama, 6-3, 6-0.

The Sharks lost all three doubles matches to start the day. Austin Lavallii (Sr., Williamston, Mich.) teamed with Kierberg in the top flight to fall to Abanda and Onila, 8-3. In the next match, Johansson and Bianca Roberts (So., Tampa, Fla.) lost to Linda Fritschken and Twelker, 8-2. In the third flight, Rizzolo and Serdyuk lost to Miro and Goia, 8-1.

The Sharks will take a break from conference play, but return to the court for a spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., starting on March 4 against Saginaw Valley State.
