GAME ONE BOX | GAME TWO BOX

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
- The No. 17 Nova Southeastern baseball team (5-1) solidified the sweep against the visiting Albany State Rams (0-3) with a pair of wins today, winning the first game of the doubleheader, 16-7, and finishing with a 10-1 victory in game two.

GAME 1

Brandon Sedell (So., Davie, Fla.) and Julien Plana (Fr., Miami, Fla.) led the Sharks' offense in game one, scoring a combine five runs, three and two, respectively. Sedell went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Plana went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Vinnie Contaldi (Sr., Jupiter, Fla.) had a flawless five-inning no-hitter performance on the hill, facing 16 batters with seven strikeouts.

The Sharks got the bats going early, scoring three runs in the home half of the first. Julian Loret de Mola (So., Miami, Fla.) had a hard hit RBI double to right center to round Alex Marrero (Sr., Miami, Fla.) from second, who walked during his at bat to score the Sharks first run of the game. Loret de Mola advanced his way home to extend the Sharks lead, 2-0, off a hard hit single to right field by Anthony Angulo (Sr., Homestead, Fla.). Jose Rodriguez (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.) scored the final run of the inning after a handful of walks by the Golden Rams pitcher.

The two teams went scoreless through two and a half innings until the Sharks put the finishing touch on the Golden Rams in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs along with one in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead, 10-0, before the Golden Rams showed any sign of offense.

Albany State had one blow out inning, chalking up seven runs in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough to turn the tables on the Sharks.  NSU responded in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three, along with three more in the bottom of the eighth to solidify their win, 16-7.

The Sharks had 16 runs on 16 hits in the contest, committing only one error. Colton Rogers (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla.) and Patrick Kulick (So., Coral Springs, Fla.) finished off the Golden Rams from the mound, facing 11 combined batters, allowing only one hit in two combined innings pitched.

GAME 2

A threesome of Sharks led the NSU offense, scoring the majority of their runs in game two with impressive power at the plate. Ryan Woodrey (So., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) went 2-for-4 with one run scored and a three-run home run, his first of the season. Rodriguez went 2-for-4, scoring two runs in addition to a grand slam. Loret de Mola scored twice, also adding a two-run dinger. On the mound, capturing his first win of the season, was Mitchell Buerosse (Jr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.), who faced 17 batters in five innings pitched, allowing only one run on two hits.

The game started out tight with three scoreless innings until Albany State lit the board first in the top of the fourth, scoring one run off a hard hit RBI single to left field.

The Sharks responded quickly in the home half of the fourth, capturing the lead off a bomb to left field and off the top of the scoreboard by Woodrey, rounding Rodriguez and Angulo, who both singled at their at bat to take the lead, 3-1.

The Sharks continued their dominance in the bottom of the fifth, adding three more runs, extending the lead, 6-1. Loret de Mola rocked a two-run home run to score Sedell, who reached on a single to centerfield at the previous at bat. The third run of the inning was on a SAC fly to right field by Blake Boyd (Sr., Jupiter, Fla.), which scored Angulo from third with the bases loaded.

The final four runs of the game came in the bottom of the sixth off a grand slam by Rodriguez, which rounded Marrero, Sedell and Loret de Mola to finish of the three game series sweep with a final third game score, 10-1.

NSU moves to 5-1 on the season and will be back in action again Tuesday, Feb. 12, when they travel to Miami, Fla. to take on St. Thomas. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
