RESULTS
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern track and field teams kicked off their weekend at the Hurricane Invitational, at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla. This is the third straight meet where the Sharks have had a school record fall.
Ryan Jerothe (So., New Port Richey, Fla.), broke his own record in the pole vault yet again, jumping 4.75 meters. This is the third time this season he has set a new high mark. His jump earned him a third-place finish.
Ian Towne (Jr., South Walton, Minn.) finished behind Jerothe in fifth place, vaulting 4.30 meters.
In the women’s pole vault,
Vanessa Munley (So. Moosiac, Pa.) tied her own school record in the women’s pole vault, leaping 3.35 meters. She had broken the school record a day prior, at the Florida International Invitational in Miramar, Fla.
In the javelin throw, the Sharks went 3-4-5 on both the men’s and women’s side. The men led off with
Darren Hendricks (Fr., North Port, Fla.) throwing 41.90 meters. Following Hendricks were Towne and Jerothe throwing 41.06 and 31.13, respectively.
Jessica Nyiro (Fr., Davie, Fla.) led the Shark women by throwing 25.21 meters.
Angela Leonard (Fr., Upper Chichester, Pa.) and
Brandi Nichols (Jr., Inverness, Fla.) followed behind Nyiro throwing 18.62 and 16.30, respectively,
Hendricks also had a fourth-place finish in the hammer, throwing 39.20 meters.
In the men’s high jump,
Derrick Wood (Jr., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) placed fifth jumping 1.93 meters.
In the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase,
Omar Hernandez (Sr., Rio Pico, Ariz.) and
Nico Crecco (Sr., Mendon, N.Y.) took a 1-2 finish with times of 9:58.78 and 9:58.98, respectively.
In the men’s 5,000 meter run,
Timo Kilp (Jr., Kose, Estonia) was the top Shark in the event coming in fourth with a time of 15:37.08.
Long Tran (Jr., Saigon, Vietnam) followed behind Kilp in sixth place with a time of 15:49.00.
In the women’s 5,000 meter run,
Peri Bowman (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) was the top runner in the event coming in eighth, with a time of 18:16.04.
