Baseball Sharks Set To Host No. 6 Tampa For Three-Game Tussle

Tampa is ranked as high as sixth nationally

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team hosts their next-to-last home series of the year at the NSU Baseball Complex when the No. 6 Tampa Spartans come to town for a weekend three-game set.

The Plantation Ford/Weston Nissan Volvo Series of the Week begins Friday night with a 6 p.m. game, and finishes up the following day with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Sharks (24-16, 6-9 SSC) are coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of the third-ranked team in the conference, Lynn, and now face the squad atop the standings in the Spartans (34-9, 14-4 SSC).

Tampa has had four winning streaks this season of five or more games, and has won their last four, including a three-game sweep of Eckerd. Last time out, on Tuesday night, they defeated Southeastern College by the score of 8-1.

UT leads the conference in batting at .319 and is second in team pitching with a 3.34 ERA. They feature the top two pitchers in the league in ERA, Matt Abramson (6-1, 0.98) and Mike Adams (5-0, 1.60) and have eight hitters batting .300 or higher, lead by Sean O’Brien at .363.

For the Sharks, Jose Rodriguez (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.) continues to pace all SSC hitters with a .392 batting average. He is joined by teammate Carlos Asuaje (Jr., Weston, Fla.) as leaders of a conference stat category, as the middle infielder has 31 stolen bases. That number ranks Asuaje 10th in all of Division II.
