Five Sharks Receive All-SSC Baseball Honors

The five Sharks selected for All-SSC are the most since 2011.

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team had five athletes named to the 2013 All-Sunshine State Conference team, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Brandon Sedell (So., Davie, Fla.) and Kevin Reynolds (Jr., Ft. Myers, Fla.) earned All-SSC First Team honors, while seniors Jose Rodriguez (Hialeah, Fla.) and Alex Marrero (Miami, Fla.), as well as junior Carlos Asuaje (Weston, Fla.), each were selected to the All-SSC Second Team.

Playing in his final season with the Sharks, Reynolds picked up his first all-conference award, receiving first-team honors, as the All-SSC designated hitter. Reynolds batted .311 while slugging .511 on the season. Reynolds also notched career highs in home runs (4) and RBI (21).

Sedell, a first-year transfer from the University of Florida, was selected to the first team at third base. He finished tied for third on the team in batting average (.333), while posting a .442 slugging percentage, and his 35 RBI and 12 doubles were each good enough for second best on the team.

Asuaje earned all-conference honors for the third consecutive year with the Sharks and the second time being named to the All-SSC Second Team, this season at shortstop. He started and played in all but two games this season for NSU, while compiling team highs in doubles (13) and on-base percentage (.441). Asuaje racked up 33 RBI on 57 hits and led the conference in stolen bases with 32. He was also the most walked player on the team with 38.

Marrero played in 48 of the 49 games this season, boasting a .333 batting average to go along with a .500 slugging percentage. He was fourth on the team with five home runs and brought in 25 runs. Marrero was tied for first on the squad with 40 runs scored, which was reflected in his on-base percentage of .431.

In his first season with NSU, Rodriguez finished the as the Sharks' top hitter, with a batting average of .355, good enough for ninth best in the conference. He finished the season with a team-high seven home runs and 90 total bases. Rodriguez finished second on the team in runs scored (39), slugging percentage (.542) and tied for second with 33 RBI.
