WINTER PARK, Fla. – For the second consecutive week,
Jasmine Wilkins has been named Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, presented by VALIC.
Wilkins (R-Jr., Miami) helped lead the 14-0 Sharks to two of their closest victories of the season to keep the team undefeated and on top of the SSC. In the win over Barry, 78-76, she had eight straight during a big second-half run and ended the game with team highs of 20 points and nine rebounds.
She followed that up in the 63-60 victory against No. 13 Rollins with her fourth double-double of the year, 13 points and 11 rebounds. The forward totaled six assists and three steals, and had two blocks in each game.
Wilkins shot over 50 percent for the field in the two wins (11-of-20) and despite being a 42 percent free-throw shooter coming into the week, went 11-for-16 (68.7 percent), with every point needed in two wins that came by a total of five points.
Her two recognitions as Player of the Week, combined with earlier nods to
Richelle Carach (Sr., Naples, Fla.) and
Danielle Robinson (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), gives the Sharks four POW awards in nine weeks.
