Tennis Kicks off Season at Home Against Florida Tech

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern tennis team will begin its season at home Saturday against the Florida Tech Panthers at 1 p.m.

The Sharks return all but one player from last year's young squad. Former All-American Alexandra Johansson (Jr., Sydney, Australia) and last year's No. 1 singles player Sabrina Kierberg (So., Berlin, Germany) are likely to lead singles play in the top two flights. The duo is expected to be slotted in the 1/2 singles flights, while Johansson is set to team up with Charlotte Cote (Jr., Montreal Canada) in doubles play. The two teamed up for a majority of 2013 and were the Sharks' most succesful partners.

Last season, the Sharks fell to the Panthers, 7-2, on the road. Bianca Roberts (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) earned a singles win over Abbey Keister, 7-6, 7-5. In the final seed, Luisa Pintado (Fr., Guadalajara, Mexico) cruised to victory in her Sunshine State Conference debut against Jessica Widmark, 6-2, 6-2.

This will be the first match for the Sharks under new head coach Stephen Schram. It will also feature the coaching debut of Austin Lavallii, who is starting her coaching career after a three-year playing career at NSU.
