FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After a three-week hiatus from competition, the Nova Southeastern University women's swimming and diving team hopped back in the water and took care of business against Lynn University, defeating the Fighting Knights by a score of 107-82.
Picking up where she left off,
Bryndis Hansen (So. Akureyri, Iceland) led the way, as she swam a NCAA National B Qualifying time in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.98.
The afternoon started off with a 400-yard medley relay win for the Sharks, as
Emma Wahlstrom (So. Stockholm, Sweden),
Malin Westman (Fr. Harryda, Sweden), Hansen and
Emma Lawrenz (Sr. Mennetonka, Minn.) combined to swim a time of 3:55.63. Their teammate
Brooke Munion (So., Bethlehem, Pa.) would follow with a convincing win in the 1000-yard free, swimming a time of 10:39.13.
After a short rest from her first event, Hansen would dive back in and cruise to victory in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:54.83. Team captain,
Arianna Sunyak (Sr., Naples, Fla.), followed with a 50-yard free win, swimming a time of 25.41. In the last event before the first break, freshman
Courtney DeVeny (Estero, Fla.) would miss a NCAA National B Qualifying time by .01 of a second, as she swam a 4:32.57 in the 400-yard IM.
The eleventh event of the day brought the Sharks a second-place finish from
Catherine Sell (Fr., Cedar Falls, Iowa), as she swam a time of 2:11.76 in the 200-yard butterfly. Wahlstrom would later coast to the finish line, swimming a time of 2:04.09 in the 200-yard backstroke. The women closed their afternoon with a second place finish in the 200-yard free relay, as Wahlstrom,
Alexis Diaz (Fr., Summerfield, Fla.),
Jordan Shows (Fr., Alta Loma, California) and Lawrenz swam a time of 1:37.70.
The men scrimmaged in the meet in order to prepare themselves for Saturday's showdown with the Rollins Tars.
Thiago Sickert (So., Vila Velha, Brazil) and
Shane Kleinbeck (Sr., San Antonio, Texas) highlighted the men's side, as they combined for what would be three NCAA National B Qualifying times.
Both teams will be back in action when the Tars come to town this Saturday. The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the NSU Aquatic Center.
