RESULTS
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 15 Nova Southeastern tennis team (3-3) snapped the undefeated record of South Florida former rival, the Northwood Seahawks (5-1), at home Wednesday, 8-1.
NSU swept the Seahawks in singles play to secure the win.
Alexandra Johansson (Jr., Sydney, Australia) earned a win in the top flight, defeating Justyna Wojcik, 6-3, 7-6 (10-1).
Sabrina Kierberg (So., Berlin, Germany) moved to 6-0 in singles play with an efficient win over Ivana Vlakic, 6-1, 6-1.
Carlee Rizzolo (So., Livingston, N.J.) gutted out a three-set win over Adelaide Wood, 1-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Juliet Serabian (So., Plantation, Fla.) only needed to complete one set before her opponent, Valentina Souki, retired with the score at 6-1, 1-0. NSU was forced to make two late switches in the fifth and sixth draws.
Bianca Roberts (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) and
Iryna Serdyuk (So., Boca Raton, Fla.) each stepped up to earn wins. Roberts defeated Livia Toth, 6-4, 6-2, while Serdyuk beat Julia Ferraz, 7-6 (10-4), 6-2.
"Serdyuk played six and Roberts played five, I was very proud of how they stepped up in singles," stated head coach Stephen Schram. "They all battled hard against a feisty and good team."
NSU won two out of three doubles matches at the start of the day. The Sharks won their first top-flight doubles match this season, as Kierberg and freshman
Alex Kaeser (Woodstock, Ga.) defeated Wojcik and Souki, 8-1. In the third draw,
Linda Kornienko (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) and Serabian beat Toth and Ferraz, 8-5. In the second flight, Johansson and
Charlotte Cote (Jr., Montreal, Canada) lost to Vlakic and Wood, 8-6.
The Sharks will move on to face Eckerd on the road in conference play Friday at 2 p.m.
