FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The No. 4 Nova Southeastern women's basketball team hosts the first of three straight home games on Wednesday night when they take on the Eckerd Tritons at 5:30 p.m. in the NSU Arena.

The Sharks (17-1, 8-1 SSC) kept a one-game lead in the conference standings with a 69-58 win over Florida Southern on Saturday. Four players were in double digits in the victory, led by Richelle Carach (Sr., Naples, Fla.) with 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Both Rollins and Tampa emerged victorious on Saturday as well to move to 7-2 in-conference and remain a game behind NSU.

Eckerd (8-10, 1-7 SSC) snapped a six-game losing streak with a 78-71 decision over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. All six losses came in conference play since the Tritons topped Florida Southern on Jan. 8 (53-43), but the last two each came in overtime, to Florida Tech (64-61) and Lynn (55-53).

One of the Tritons' two seniors, 6-3 forward Liga Vente, leads the team both in scoring (12.6) and rebounding (7.7). The other, Amy Buccilla is one of the conference's top 3-point shooters, both in percentage (40.4, third) and makes (2.2, fourth).

Earlier this season, in St. Petersburg on Jan. 4, the Sharks trailed by 14 with 5:28 to go in the first half, but held Eckerd to 14 percent shooting after the break to win, 69-50. Taylor Buie (So., Puyallup, Wash.) led all players with 18 points, while Jasmine Wilkins (R-Jr., Miami) had 16 and nine rebounds. Jessica Russi (Sr., Lake Mary, Fla.) had 13 assists, on exactly half of the Sharks' 26 baskets.

The Sharks moved a spot up to No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Poll with Emporia State's loss last week. They are behind No. 1 Bentley and No. 2 Colorado Mesa, each still undefeated, and fellow one-loss team, No. 3 Gannon. Also with one loss are No. 5 West Texas A&M, No. 6 Harding and No. 14 Virginia State. Other teams within the South Region that are ranked in the top 25 are No. 12 Delta State (16-2) and the only other SSC team in the poll, No. 15 Rollins (18-3).

Tipoff on Wednesday night is 5:30. Tune in for free streaming video/audio here and live stats here.

SHARK STATS

• Russi, Wilkins and Buie continue to rank among the nation's top 20 in four different categories. Russi's 8.4 assists is four-tenths behind Sade Jackson of Adelphi. Wilkins is second in the SSC and fifth in the nation in field goal percentage at 61.9. The national leader is Tarleton State's Kiara Wright at 67.7 percent.

• Carach would rank second nationally behind Wright, but her 66.7 percent doesn't come on enough makes per game. It does qualify her for SSC-leading status.

• Buie is top-20 in two national categories: 3-point percentage (42.4, 19th) and 3-pointers made per game (2.8, 20th). The latter leads the conference, the former is second behind only Sarah Blackburn at Rollins. Buie does have more than twice as many makes and attempts than Blackburn (50-of-118 compared to 21-of-45).

• With 10 points against FSC on Saturday, Danielle Robinson (Jr., Fort Lauderdale) is now at 1,059 for her career and moved into third place all-time on the NSU women's scoring list, passing Jennifer Havens' 1,053. She has a ways to go for second place, as Stephanie Sarosi totaled 1,655 in her career.

• Wilkins moved into second place on the career rebounding list with seven on Saturday, and has 487 in her three-plus years. She passed Abbie Tepe's 483, and now only trails Sarosi, at 806.

• Russi surpassed the 400-assist milestone in her career with seven against the Mocs to sit now at 405. For the season, she has 151, behind only her 165 of a year ago and Tepe's 170 in 2010-11. Her next steal will be number 150 of her career.

• The Sharks are still the nation's leader in assists per game at 20.3 and are second in 3-pointers per game at 9.3. Their field goal percentage dipped a bit to 48.2, dropping them from first to third since the last report. Other high national rankings include fifth in scoring offense (83.6), ninth in scoring margin (+18.5) and 13th in assist/turnover ratio (1.2).
