No. 16 Tennis Splits Final Day in Pensacola

Sharks take down Lee and fall to West Florida.

PENSACOLA, Fla. The No. 16 Nova Southeastern tennis team (13-6) wrapped up play in Pensacola, Fla. Sunday by splitting results in a doubleheader, defeating Lee, 5-0, before being topped by No. 9 West Florida, 5-0.
 
In the win, the Sharks earned the shutout beginning with three doubles wins. In the top flight, Alex Kaeser (Fr., Woodstock, Ga.) and Sabrina Kierberg (So., Berlin, Germany) earned their victory by a score of 8-4. Alexandra Johansson (Jr., Sydney, Australia) and Carlee Rizzolo (So., Livingston, Ga.) were perfect in their second-draw win, 8-0. In the third, Juliet Serabian (So., Plantation, Fla.) and Linda Kornienko (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) won, 8-1.
 
The two singles wins came in the second and sixth flights. Rizzolo completed a perfect morning with a shutout win in the second draw, 6-0, 6-0. Kaeser stepped up into singles play and won in the sixth, 6-2, 6-0.
 
NSU wrapped up its four-match weekend with an afternoon match with the host school, West Florida. The top-10 ranked school showed its skill level by taking all three doubles matches. However, Johansson and Rizzolo nearly pulled out there match with a close 9-8 loss. Kaeser and Kierberg lost their match, 8-0, while Serabian and Kornienko fell, 8-2.
 
In singles play, Johansson had the opportunity to play the sixth-ranked singles player in the nation, Monika Kochanova, in the top flight. Johansson was competitive but ultimately fell, 6-1, 6-3. The day ended when Kornienko lost in the fourth draw, 6-3, 6-1.
 
NSU will stay on the road but return to South Florida to face No. 5 Lynn on April 3 at 2 p.m.
