No. 16 Tennis to Face Two Top-10 Teams this Week

Sharks to travel to No. 5 Lynn and No. 10 Florida Southern.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 16 Nova Southeastern tennis team (13-6, 3-2 SSC) will play two Sunshine State Conference road matches this week against top-10 nationally ranked teams. The Sharks will face No. 5 Lynn (19-1, 6-0 SSC) Thursday at 2 p.m. and Florida Southern (11-3, 2-2 SSC) Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Sharks are coming off a four-match road trip to Pensacola, Fla. where they faced some of the best teams in the Gulf South Conference. NSU would come away with two wins against Delta State and Lee, both at scores of 5-0.

This week, the Sharks will look to cement themselves in the top-four of the SSC standings and secure a top seed in the tournament. At 3-2, the Sharks are currently tied with Saint Leo in the third spot, but do not hold the tiebreaker. Florida Southern and Rollins trail NSU by a half game, and NSU will have an opportunity to fend them off over the last four matches of the regular season.

The Sharks will have their hands full on Thursday. Lynn boasts the No. 1 player in the nation in Valentine Confalonieri and the No. 1 doubles team in the nation as well. Four Sharks will be put to the test against nationally ranked opponents on the road.

Against Florida Southern, the deck appears to be stacked evenly. No. 48 Alexandra Johansson (Jr., Sydney, Australia) will likely be pitted against No. 40 Magda Riutort. Sabrina Kierberg (So., Berlin, Germany), who sports a team-best 14-1 record, will likely face No. 44 Sabine Goge in the second draw. Earning a road win against a top-10 team would be among the team's highest accomplishments this season.
