FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern softball team (28-17) will travel to Miami to face the St. Thomas Bobcats (22-20) in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 22 with the first pitch at 2 p.m.
Recently, NSU held Florida Tech to one run in a three-game series on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18.
The Sharks swept the Panthers on Friday in two shutout games.
Jennie Von Doellen (Sr., Hudson Bay, Canada) went the distance for the Sharks in game one, allowing only three hits while striking out seven.
Rebecca Thornton (Fr., Lodi, Calif.) allowed only four hits in the second game of Friday's doubleheader.
Katrina Ammons (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) hit a two-run double in the third game of the series for the Sharks to take the win.
The Sharks sweep over Florida Tech last weekend marked the Sharks' fourth sweep in five series, something the program has not done since 2010. The Saturday win also wrapped up a 15-5 home record, and since the Sharks opened home play against Barry on March 25, they have gone 14-3 in their past 17 games.
Statistically,
Erika Garcia (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) has moved up in the Sunshine State Conference rankings. Garcia is second in batting average with .415, tied for second in hits with 54, and is first in both RBI (46) and doubles (15).
St. Thomas is currently 22-20 and has won their last their list three of four games.
Most recently, the Bobcats swept Northwood in shoutout fashion last Thursday, April 17. Brenda Emerson allowed three hits and struck out four in the first win of the day. Christina Sacremento earned the win in the second game, allowing only three hits and striking out eight.
The Sharks and Panthers met earlier in the season on March 22 in the A.D. Griffin Sports Complex. The Sharks swept the Bobcats and allowed just seven combined hits in their wins of 6-2 and 1-0.
In the opener, the difference maker was the Sharks scoring four runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth. Thornton pitched all seven innings in the game, allowing only four hits and two walks to earn the victory.
In game two, the only run of the game came from the Sharks in the bottom of the first inning.
Melanie Spicola (Jr. Umatilla, Fla.) walked to first and stole second base to set up Ammons sending her home with a deep double to centerfield.
NSU holds a 71-7 all-time record against St. Thomas.
