No. 16 Tennis Looks to Make Statement at SSC Tournament

The Sharks will face No. 7 Saint Leo in the first round.

LIVE RESULTS

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 16 Nova Southeastern tennis team will look to make its mark in the Sunshine State Conference landscape with a strong showing at the 2014 SSC Tournament, hosted by Rollins in Winter Park, Fla.

Sixth-seed NSU's first round match will be against the third-seeded No. 7 Saint Leo Lions Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Azalea Lane, one of three facilities being used for the tournament. NSU will look to make a run at winning the three-round tournament, which would earn the Sharks an automatic bid into the NCAA South Region Tournament. In order to accomplish this, they'll have to go through arguably the strongest field in the nation. All eight of the teams in the tournament are nationally ranked.

NSU will look to make up for an early-season loss against the Lions. The Lions went over NSU, 7-2, back on Feb. 9 for the Sharks' first NCAA Division II loss of the season. Despite the team loss, Sabrina Kierberg (So., Berlin, Germany) earned a singles victory in the second draw while sophomores Juliet Serabian (Plantation, Fla.) and Linda Kornienko (Fort Myers, Fla.) teamed up for a third-flight doubles win.

If the Sharks upset the Lions, they will face the winner between No. 5 Lynn, and No. 23 Tampa. That match is scheduled for Friday at 12:30 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Martin Complex.
