No. 15 Tennis Falls on the Road to No. 5 Lynn

Sharks take third SSC loss this year.

RESULTS

BOCA RATON, Fla.
The No. 15 Nova Southeastern women's tennis team (13-7, 3-3 SSC) lost a road Sunshine State Conference match against No. 5 Lynn (19-1), 8-1, Saturday in Boca Raton, Fla.

"Despite the loss, our team fought very hard today against one of the best teams in the country," stated head coach Stephen Schram. "We are getting better every day in practice and it's starting to show in matches. We are very prepared for our match against Florida Southern, who is ranked 10th in the country. We had some close matches today, in singles and doubles, despite the score."

The Sharks earned their loan win in doubles play in the third draw. Linda Kornienko (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) and Juliet Serabian (So., Plantation, Fla.) won their match in wide fashion, taking down Lynn's Alina Jane and Aleks Vukadinovic, 8-1.

The Sharks were not as fortunate in the other draws. In the top flight, Sabrina Kierberg (So., Berlin, Germany) and Alex Kaeser (Fr., Wodstock, Ga.) faced the nation's top doubles team, Vale Confalonieri and Iona Ivan, and lost, 8-0. Alexandra Johansson (Jr., Sydney, Australia) and Carlee Rizzolo (So., Livingston, N.J.) partnered in the second draw and were downed by Andrea Berkova and Rosalie Willig, 8-3.

The matches were much closer in singles play despite the sweep. Kierberg faced Ivan, the nation's 12th ranked player, and played two close sets. Ultimately, Kierberg would go down in a tough fight, 7-5, 7-6. In the fourth draw, Serabian upset Berkova, the nation's 36th ranked player, in the first set, 2-6. However, the Fighting Knight would come back and win the last two sets, 6-2, 6-2.

In the top flight, Johansson had the opportunity to face the nation's best singles player in Confalonieri. Johannson would take three games against Lynn before falling, 6-3, 6-0. In the third draw, Rizzolo lost to Willig, 6-3, 6-2. Kornienko had a close first set in the fifth draw against Jane before losing, 6-4, 6-2. Wrapping up the match in the sixth flight was Bianca Roberts (Jr., Tampa, Fla.), who lost to Kim Przeszlowski, 6-1, 6-0.

The Sharks will travel to Lakeland, Fla. Saturday to face No. 10 Florida Southern at 10 a.m.
