FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's swimming team extended its dual-meet win streak to nine after defeating Lynn University by a score of 128-77.
The Sharks opened the meet with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay, as the NSU 400-medley relay B-team consisting of
Kelsey Muma (Jr., Grand Rapids, Mich.),
Catherine Sell (So., Cedar Falls, Iowa),
Caroline Oster (Fr., Lake Mary, Fla.) and
Alyssa Roehr (Fr., Cottage Grove, Wis.) swam a winning-time of 3:53.85, more than three seconds ahead of Lynn's 400-medley relay A-team.
In the second event of the day, the 1000-yard freestyle,
Malin Westman (So., Harryda, Sweden) swam a second-place time of 10:43.18.
Emma Wahlstrom (Jr., Stockholm, Sweden) followed Westman with a win in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:53.71. Following Wahlstrom's effort was
Sydney Panzarino (So., Bradenton, Fla.), winning the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.34.
The 2015 NCAA Division II 400-yard individual medley National Champion,
Courtney DeVeny (So., Estero, Fla.), took second place with a time of 4:33.31 in the 400-IM. After a 15-minute break, DeVeny was back at it, swimming in the 200-yard butterfly in which she placed second with a time of 2:07.57.
The Sharks would go on to win the next two events, as
Jordan Shows (So., Atla Loma, Calif.) and Wahlstrom won the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Shows swam a time of 53.18, while Wahlstrom cruised to victory with a time of 2:06.12. Following the two wins was
Georgina Allin (Jr., Somerset, England), who swam a second-place time of 5:10.28 in the 500-yard freestyle.
After the final 15-minute break, Westman took second place in the 200-yard breastroke, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 2:21.35. The final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay, belonged to the NSU 200-free A-team, consisting of Shows, Panzarino,
Melissa Karman (Fr., Hixson, Tenn.) and Allin. Their time of 1:38.70 was over five seconds faster than Lynn's time of 1:44.64.
#TeamChlorine will be back in action on Friday, Nov.6, as both the men and women's swimming team host Indian River State College. The meet is set to begin at 2:00 PM.
