FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 8 Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team returns to Sunshine State Conference play to host perennial top contender Rollins on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., game two of six straight at the NSU Arena.
The Sharks (7-1, 3-0 SSC) have played three straight against non-conference foes, though the most recent matchup, Wednesday night's 80-66 home win over Palm Beach Atlantic, will only be out-of-conference until PBA joins the SSC. On that same night, Rollins (4-3, 1-1 SSC) defeated the conference's other fledgling squad, Embry-Riddle, 66-54.
Much has been said recently about the Sharks' uniformity scoring-wise, with eight now at five points a game or more towards 77.5 a night. Though Rollins is only at 60.6 per game, they took utilize a number of players, with 11 Tars playing 12 minutes or more, and six scoring four points or more. Their leading point-getter is junior Marie Gilbert at 11.4, and she is also fourth in the conference averaging 1.9 steals a contest.
For the second straight game,
Alexis Murphy (Sr., Carlisle, Ohio) led the Sharks in scoring, with 13 on Wednesday.
Taylor Buie (R-Jr., Puyallup, Wash.) was in double digits for the team-best seventh time this season, notching 12, while
Kayla Wright (Jr., Lauderhill, Fla.) and
Sarah Kelly (Fr., Huntington, W. Va.) both had 11, a career high for the latter.
Though Rollins leads the all-time series 23-12, the Sharks have won seven of the last 10, including two of three last season. The third, a rubber game as it was, came in the NCAA South Region Tournament semifinals, 63-51 in favor of NSU. Former Shark star and current assistant coach

Following Saturday's game, the Sharks won't be back in action until they host Shaw on Thursday, Dec. 17 for a matinee matchup at 2 p.m.
