LIVE STREAMING | LIVE STATS | GAME NOTESFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team has the first of three straight home games on Wednesday, hosting the Lynn Fighting Knights on Think Pink night at the NSU Arena.
The Sharks (16-5, 8-3 SSC) remained tied for second in the Sunshine State Conference standings after both they and Florida Tech fell on Saturday, while 9-1 Rollins opened up a two-game lead in the loss column with their win. NSU has five games to go, with these three consecutive home contests followed by two on the road to end the regular season.
Lynn (7-13, 1-10 SSC) comes to Fort Lauderdale mired in a 2-9 slump, with their lone conference win coming six games ago, 66-45 over Barry. Included in that timeframe was these two teams' previous matchup, a 78-74 Shark win in Boca Raton. In that game, NSU led by seven with 23.5 seconds to go, only to see Lynn make it a two-point game in the waning seconds. Two
Danielle Robinson (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) free throws clinched the victory.
This past Saturday, Robinson became just the fourth NSU basketball player in history, male or female, to surpass the 1,500 career point mark. Already the women's all-time 3-point shooter, should she make one on Wednesday night, she would join former men's player Tim Coenraad as only the second Shark ever to bury 200 '3's in their career.
Robinson leads the Sharks and is fourth in the conference in scoring at 13.8 per game. Fellow senior
Jasmine Wilkins (Miami) is just behind her in sixth at 13.2, and remains the league leader in both blocks per game (1.5) and field goal percentage (61.7), the latter mark third in the nation.
Kayla Wright (So., Lauderhill, Fla.) has averaged 15.5 points per game in her last six, all in double digits, and her shooting is now 58.2 percent per, fourth in the league and 12th nationally.
Lynn is led by Sharneka McCatty's 12.2 points per game, while Charla Nelson-James is at 9.9 points and a team-best 7.7 rebounds, second in the conference.
Besides the Sharks and Fighting Knights, also pairing off on Wednesday night are Saint Leo at Florida Southern, Eckerd at Tampa and Rollins at Barry. Florida Tech is off, so with a win, the Sharks could take temporary sole possession of second place in the standings.
