LIVE STREAMING | LIVE STATS | GAME NOTESFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team celebrates Senior Night Wednesday at the NSU Arena before the team takes on No. 17 Rollins, with the top spot in the conference standings on the line.
The Sharks (18-5, 10-3 SSC) will honor the senior duo of
Danielle Robinson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Jasmine Wilkins (Miami) in pregame ceremonies prior to the No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Rollins (19-3, 10-2 SSC) is coming off just their second conference loss, 61-58 at home versus Eckerd. A win would put NSU in first place with two games to go.
Wilkins and Robinson are the Sharks' two leading scorers this season, combining for over 27 points per game (13.9 and 13.3). They are two of only six 1,000-point scorers in NSU women's history, and Robinson made her 500th career field goal and went over 200 made 3-pointers on Saturday. Additionally, she'll become the all-time leader in games played for the women's program on Wednesday night, with Wilkins moving into fifth place all by herself.
Earlier this year, the then-No. 10 Tars took the matchup between these two teams on their home floor, 74-61 over the No. 13 Sharks. A 19-5 stretch late in the second half helped Rollins to the victory, as did a career-best 22 points from freshman Julia Ingler. For NSU, Wilkins posted her second double-double of the year, with team highs of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Molly Blomer (Jr., West Chester, Ohio) had 12 points, all in the first half, while
Alexis Murphy (Jr., Carlisle, Ohio) added 12 as well.
NSU is coming off back-to-back conference wins, over Lynn and Barry. The latter, this past Saturday, saw the Sharks notch their second buzzer-beater of the season, as Wilkins notched a steal and assist on
Jessica Valley's (R-Jr., Lafayette, Ind.) game-winner with just 0.7 seconds left.
This will be the fourth nationally-ranked team that NSU has faced this year (with the fifth this Saturday against another, in No. 20 Florida Tech), and they are looking to even their record against such opposition to 2-2. Game time is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with Senior Night festivities just prior. In addition, Rollins' seniors – Kathleen Browne, Ashley Losch, Emmalee Schill and Sarah Taylor – will also be recognized.
