TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 35 Nova Southeastern University tennis team took its second Sunshine State Conference match in as many days as they shut out Tampa on the Spartans' home courts Sunday afternoon 9-0.
The Sharks (5-0, 2-0 SSC) swept through their three doubles matches and all six singles contests, the latter for the second consecutive day, to remain undefeated on the spring season.
Doubles combinations
Sabrina Kierberg (Jr., Munich, Germany) and
Petra Jurova (Jr., Bratislavia, Slovakia),
Francesca Sella (Fr., Carpenedolo, Italy) and
Irina Constantinide (Jr., Galati, Romania), and
Alexandra Johansson (Sr., Sydney, Australia) and
Alex Kaeser (So., Woodstock, Ga.) all took care of their opponents. Kierberg and Jurova won 8-4, Sella and Constantinide 8-6 and Johansson and Kaeser 8-3.
The entirety of singles was all won in straight sets, again, just as it was in the Saturday victory against Florida Tech. No. 1 Kierberg won 7-5, 6-2; Jurova at No. 2 gave up just a single point in a 6-1, 6-0 win; No. 3 Sella topped the No. 18-ranked player in the South Region, Kelsey Matthews, 7-6, 6-1; At No. 4, Constantinide also almost served up a shutout, 6-0, 6-1; Johansson, in the 5th slot, swept 6-2, 6-1; and the Sharks' No. 6,
Carlee Rizzolo (Jr., Livingston, N.J.) was the third to come up with a near-flawless victory, 6-1, 6-0.
NSU will put their five-match winning streak on the line a week from today, Sunday March 1, again on the road against an SSC opponent. This time it will be No. 3 Saint Leo, also ranked second in the South Region. The Lions are 4-1 thus far in the spring, their only loss coming at Armstrong State on Feb. 7, 9-0. They've defeated Coastal Georgia, Florida Southern, Lynn and Palm Beach Atlantic. First serve from Saint Leo next Sunday comes at 11 a.m.
