FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 4 Nova Southeastern University tennis team moved to 5-0 in conference play and 15-0 overall this season by putting another zero on the board Friday, shutting out Eckerd 7-0 at the NSU Tennis Center at Rolling Hills.
The Sharks swept all three doubles matches against the Tritons (5-8, 0-4 SSC), halted near the finale of each by a 1:16 rain delay. All were a point or two away from completion, and two points were gained by NSU just minutes after the restart.
The No. 3 team of
Linda Kornienko (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) and
Iryna Serdyuk (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla.) gained their eighth and final point first in an 8-2 win. Almost immediately following, on court No. 2,
Alexandra Johansson (Sr., Sydney, Australia) and
Alex Kaeser (So., Woodstock, Ga.) got their necessary final game to win 8-1. The third doubles point came in the top flight, as
Irina Constantinide (Jr., Galati, Romania) and
Petra Jurova (Jr., Bratislavia, Slovakia) were 8-3 winners.
Four more tallies came on the singles side. Jurova, at No. 1, shutout her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Johansson gave up just two points, each in the second set, in a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3, while No. 4
Carlee Rizzolo (Jr., Livingston, N.J.) gave up just one more point in a 6-2, 6-1 win. Not to be outdone,
Bianca Roberts (Sr., Ft. Walden Beach, Fla.) notched a 6-1, 6-3 win from the fifth draw. The final two singles matches were washed away due to the return of the rain.
The Sharks look for their sweet 16th win on Saturday, also at home, with a 10:30 a.m. start against another SSC school in Rollins.
