FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 4 Nova Southeastern University tennis team took their second conference match in as many days to run their spotless season record to 16-0 (6-0 SSC), defeating No. 38 Rollins 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Center.
Just as in their Friday win over Eckerd, the Sharks successfully secured all three doubles points to push ahead of the Tars (5-9, 1-1 SSC) early. The No. 1 team of
Petra Jurova (Jr., Bratislavia, Slovakia) and
Irina Constantinide (Jr., Galati, Romania) were 8-4 winners;
Alexandra Johansson (Sr., Sydney, Australia) and
Alex Kaeser (So., Woodstock, Ga.) won 8-6 at No. 2; and the third duo of
Linda Kornienko (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) and
Iryna Serdyuk (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla.) took a shutout 8-0 victory.
In singles, the Sharks gained their first point when
Carlee Rizzolo's (Jr., Livingston, N.J.) No. 5 opponent retired with Rizzolo up 6-0 and 2-0 in the second set. Needing just one more win to clinch, the team would take two, with No. 2 Jurova improving to 14-0 in singles this year, 6-3, 6-3, and Constantinide, now 15-0, adding the sixth team point in the No. 3 slot, 6-3, 6-4.
The Sharks look for their third victory this season over a top-five opponent, with the only difference being that this time, they too are ranked along that same plane. The marquee matchup of the No. 4 Sharks at the No. 2 Barry Buccaneers will be on the road in Miami Shores in 10 days, starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7.
