No. 4 Shark Tennis Falls For First Time This Season

16-1, 6-1 NSU drops a game behind Barry in SSC standings with loss

Box Score Match Results

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The No. 4 Nova Southeastern University tennis team suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday, dropping a 9-0 decision to No. 2 Barry on the road.

For just the second time this season, the Sharks (16-1, 6-1 SSC) trailed following doubles, with Tuesday being the first sweep by an opponent after that portion. Barry (15-1, 6-0 SSC) took all three combinations, with the third nearly playing out the string as Petra Jurova (Jr., Bratislavia, Slovakia) and Irina Constantinide (Jr., Galati, Romania) were outlasted 8-6.

The first singles point came in the top draw, when Sabrina Kierberg (Jr., Munich, Germany) was forced to retire. The No. 5, No. 4 and No. 3 matchups were dropped in that order in straight sets, followed by the first singles loss of the year for Jurova (now 14-1) in the No. 2. Bianca Roberts (Sr., Ft. Walden Beach, Fla.) took her opponent to tiebreak in the second set, but the Bucs gained the final point at No. 6 with a 6-1, 7-5 result.

The Sharks look to bounce back and stay just a match back in the loss column to now-outright conference leader Barry when they host Florida Southern on Saturday at 11 a.m. Young Shark fans can come out earlier that morning for Campus Kids' Day, a free clinic beginning at 9 a.m. (with registration at 8:45).
