FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 10 Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team looks to rebound from their first league loss, beginning the second half of their Sunshine State Conference slate on Saturday at home, versus Saint Leo at the NSU Arena.
The Sharks (15-2, 7-1 SSC) fell to Tampa on Wednesday to snap a 10-game winning streak, and suffered their first loss to a conference opponent since last February. They rematch with a Saint Leo (4-13, 1-7 SSC) squad that they knocked off in double overtime on the road on Nov. 21, a team that has lost four straight and their last five in league play.
NSU won the earlier matchup 85-82, their seventh straight against the Lions (helping to contribute to a 27-5 all-time advantage).
Taylor Buie (R-Jr., Puyallup, Wash.) had 26 points,
Kayla Wright (Jr., Lauderhill, Fla.) added 18, and
Monaye Merritt (R-Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.) had the team's only double-double of the year, 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Chelsy Springs, the leading scorer in the league this year at 17.0 points per game, had 27 in that matchup. Of their current players, Izabell Skoogh was next for the Lions with 22, 18 of which came on six successful 3-pointers.
Springs also leads Saint Leo in rebounds per game, field goal and free throw percentage and assists. Her 8.5 rebounds a night is another top conference mark.
