FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming teams honored three seniors before their sweep over the Limestone Saints on Wednesday afternoon, recognizing the careers of
Brie Campbell, J.D. Rousseau and
Niklas Andersson. The men's and women's team each won by a score of 126-74.
The meet opened with a win from the NSU women's 200-yard medley relay A-team, consisting of
Courtney DeVeny,
Malin Westman,
Jordan Shows and
Sydney Panzarino. Their time of 1:48.29 was followed by a win from the men's 200-medley relay A-team, consisting of
David Van Der Colff,
Anton Lobanov,
Victor Tarin and
Malique Elder. They swam a time of 1:32.92. In the women's 1000-yard freestyle,
Georgina Allin swam a 10:38.32 to take first place. Allin was trailed by
Blake Woodrow, who swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 9:33.27, earning his first victory of the meet.
Emma Wahlstrom continued her winning ways, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:51.76 in the women's 200-yard freestyle, fast enough for a first-place finish.
Victor Tarin followed with a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:39.52 in the men's 200-free to take first place.
Jordan Shows then won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.57. Sickert followed Shows with a NCAA B-Standard time of 20.55 to take the win in the men's 50-free. In the 200-yard individual medley, DeVeny defeated her opponents by over three seconds, swimming a time of 2:10.15.
Marco Aldabe then took victory in the men's 200-IM, swimming a time of 1:53.91.
After a 10-minute break in the meet,
Caroline Oster swam a 59.74 in the women's 100-yard butterfly, finishing in second place. Tarin trailed with his second win of the day, swimming a time of 50.37 in the men's 100-fly. In the women's 100-yard freestyle, Shows took the "W," swimming a 52.82 in the women's 100-yard freestyle. Sickert followed with a win in the men's 100-free, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 45.03.
David Van Der Colff and
Courtney DeVeny then won the men's and women's 100-yard backstroke, swimming times of 51.35 and 1:00.75, respectively. The men's and women's 500-yard freestyle was dominated by the Sharks as well, featuring wins from Eddie Zacka and Wahlstrom. Zacka swam a time of 4:46.44, while Wahlstrom swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 5:03.59.
With a significantly large lead, the Sharks decided to exhibition the final four events of the day, including the men's and women's 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Sharks will be back in action Saturday, January 9th, against Florida Southern. The meet will mark the final regular season meet for the Sharks, allowing them a month of preparation for the Sunshine State Conference meet.
