Sharks Hit Road for SSC Matchup with Barry

NSU looking to end losing skid Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – On the heels of its highest offensive output of the season, Nova Southeastern will hope to keep the goals coming when it heads south to take on Sunshine State Conference foe Barry at 6 p.m. ET Wednesday evening.

Paced by a pair of goals from Bestun Mohammed and a score in the 33rd minute by substitute Faycal Oulahbib, the Sharks jumped out to a 3-2 advantage following an hour-plus weather delay against Rollins last Saturday. The three goals, all recorded in the first half, were not only the most registered by Nova Southeastern in a single-game in 2016, but also tied a single-game high dating back to September 16, 2015 versus Florida Southern.

However, despite the offensive onslaught, the Tars managed to find a way to squeak out a victory with a comeback late in regulation. Trailing by the same 3-2 margin in the 83rd minute, Rollins tallied two goals in a 2:40 span to suck the air out of the NSU Soccer Complex and drop the Sharks to 2-9 overall on the season.

Mohammed and Caue Rodrigues, who notched his first career multi-assist game in the effort, will have a quality opportunity to build on their recent success with the matchup at Barry upcoming. Through 10 games this season, the Buccaneers' defense has surrendered a league-high 2.30 goals per game, including four in a recent defeat at Tampa on October 14.

The Barry offense will keep the Sharks' hands full, though. Despite dropping out of the recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll on Tuesday following three consecutive defeats, head coach Steve McCrath's club enters fresh off a 7-1 throttling of Auburn-Montgomery and currently leads the SSC with a 3.60 offensive scoring average.

Statistically, Thomas Coombes and Hanno Antoni form the conference's most daunting duo, both ranked among the SSC's Top-4 in goals scored. With two more goals last Sunday, Coombes moved into sole possession in the league in goals per game (1.10 gpg) and has now notched three multi-goal efforts in 2016.

NSU and Barry have split each of its previous two meetings.
