FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After a 10-day break for the holidays, the Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team will hit the court for the last time in 2016, hosting Sunshine State provisional member, Embry-Riddle. The game is slated to tipoff at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening in the NSU Arena.
The Sharks (8-4, 4-1 SSC) are coming off a 1-2 west coast trip, where they took on Concordia-Portland, No. 9 Seattle Pacific and Simon Fraser from Canada.
Megan Piggott led NSU in scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game after shooting 42.9 percent from the field. Piggott tallied a game-high 27 points for the Sharks in a 76-56 loss to Simon Fraser on 8-of-16 from the field and connected on 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, and added the rest of her points from 8-of-9 shooting from the stripe.
Samantha Logan led the team in rebounds, with a 9.3 rebounds per game average. In total, Logan pulled down 28 rebounds, 20 of those defensive.
Overall,
Christen Prasse continues to lead the Sharks in scoring, averaging 12.1 points a game. Logan leads the Sharks in rebounds, with 9.1 a game, and also leads the entire SSC in that category.
In their most recent time out on Dec. 17, the Eagles (8-3) fell to Texas Woman's University, 59-58, in the final game of the Bahama House Classic. The Eagles led for the entire first half and nearly all of the third quarter, and ERAU had a one-point lead with just over a minute to play, but the Pioneers pulled out the victory late.
ERAU boasts a pair of offensive threats in Sabrina Whiting and Mercedes Jorge, who average 11.7 and 11.0 points per game, respectively. Jorge also tops the Eagles in rebounding, with 6.7 boards per game.
The Sharks hold a 2-0 in the overall series against the Eagles. In their most recent meeting in 2015, the Sharks cruised to victory in their first-ever game at the ICI Center, downing Embry-Riddle, 75-52.
