FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 7 Nova Southeastern University tennis team will open up 2016 regular season play vs. the No. 1 team in Division II, Armstrong State Pirates, at the NSU Tennis Center at Rolling Hills this Friday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m.
The Sharks began the 2016 year with two exhibition meets against NCAA Div. I neighbors FAU and current JUCO champs ASA College. Both exhibition meets served as preparation towards a challenging regular season schedule.
At the beginning of the month the Sharks were predicted by the conference coaches to finish No. 4 in the Sunshine State Conference. The prediction comes from the preseason coaches' poll, in which votes are counted towards each team and ranked respectively.
The Sharks are set to start a new journey towards the NCAA National Championships, with their first opponent being the current DII National champions, No. 1 Armstrong State. The Pirates finished their 2015 season with an impeccable record of 33-0, defeating every opponent that they faced.
This will be the first time the Pirates visit the Sharks since the spring of 2009, when the meet was cancelled due to inclement weather. In 2008, the Sharks also hosted Armstrong State but were unable to top them in the end. The Sharks look forward to showcasing their best talent on Friday to set a good standard for the rest of the upcoming 2016 season.
