FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University baseball team (11-10, 3-3 SSC) is looking to rebound from a tough series loss to Lynn, as they play host to the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen (13-0) on Tuesday, March 15. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. at the NSU Baseball Complex and
Jonny Ortiz will be on the mound for the Sharks.
Despite the loss,
Andres Visbal has continued his torrid pace, with 11 hits in his last 15 at bats, to bring his batting average up to .317. The bullpen also delivered a strong performance, as
Julian Loret de Mola and
Devin Raftery both set career highs in strikeouts, at nine in seven innings and seven in three innings, respectively.
The Sharks are 6-2 all-time against SNHU, with all eight meetings taking place at the NSU Baseball Complex. Last season, NSU swept the Penmen in a three-game series. In that series, Visbal was 5-for-10 with three runs scored and driven in, two walks and a stolen base.
The Penmen come to NSU in the middle of their spring break trip around the state of Florida. On Saturday, SNHU defeated Molloy 19-6 and Adelphi 5-2 on Monday and on Sunday, they swept Caldwell in a doubleheader in Lantana, Fla., 20-0 and 15-0. So far this season, they have averaged over nine runs per game, ranking ninth among all DII teams, while allowing under 2.5. The offense is led by Mike Mastroberti, a .431 hitter with five triples, and Derek Bauer, who has a team-high four home runs. As a team, the SNHU offense is second in the nation in triples (20), while the pitching staff is sixth in ERA (2.41), second in hits allowed per nine innings (6.37), and fourth in WHIP (1.02).
